I don't really know how to feel about this topic. I feel like it should be mandatory, but I also believe that people can make their own decisions as long as its not disgracing America. The article does have a good point, when they state that it would help get a true vote on which president the people favor more. Then everyone has an input and if one president is favored by the majority, then they should win the election. But i also see the other side and that if someone really doesn't care who wins or is to lazy to vote, then it's there own fault for not participating and they shouldn't complain about who wins the election after all the votes are in.
Personally, I don't think that all Americans should be required to vote. I think that it should be an option, not a requirement. Forcing Americans to vote does not mean that there will be an increase in informed voters. People who don't care who win or are too lazy to vote won't attempt to inform themselves, thus they will vote carelessly and only aide in bad policy making.
In my opinion, requiring all Americans to vote would be a colossal error. Generally, the people who bother to go out and vote have at least a slight semblance of awareness concerning the U.S's political climate. If everyone was forced to vote, the election would turn into a moron's popularity contest based on arbitrary characteristics of the candidates. Arguably, the less people voting the better (as long as those people who are voting are well read). In addition, this would be hard to implement, just imagine the size of the physical voting lines and the numerous potential complications of voting digitally from home.
Requiring all Americans to vote would be and absolutely disastrous idea. This is due to the fact that even if you could require everybody to vote, you would not be able to force everyone to stay updated on the current state of politics. This would only lead to the addition of a massive group of American voters who are voting without any real idea of the consequences of putting their candidate into office. In addition, a lack of knowledge on candidates would leave voters turning to the candidate that they simply like for reasons other than politics. Because it is extremely rare for voter turnout to break the sixty percent mark, the new forty percent of voters will most likely be the deciding votes ultimately making the presidential election a popularity contest instead of choosing the most qualified candidate.
I do not believe that people should be required to vote. Those who will take the time to go out and vote will be the ones who truly care about the outcome of the election. These would be the kinds of people who would research the candidates and the most important ideals that each candidate stands for in order to make an educated decision. If everyone was required to vote, many would be ill-informed of the repercussions of their vote or not know what their candidate's stance is on certain topics. With the option to vote, those who want to see a difference being made will be able to do so and have their voice heard. This way actually allows people more freedom because they not only have the choice to vote for who they support, but they can also decide to not vote at all. This supports and in turn is supported by the basic American principles that are central to our way of life.
Requiring all Americans to vote would be a horrible idea in my eyes. Forcing this upon citizens would not only diminish the right to vote, but it would also cause an inaccurate election. The article argues that changing the election in this way will cause Americans to pay attention to the candidates. They will research them and vote based on their campaign, because who would want to base such an important decision on a guess? However, I think that the Americans that do not currently vote will only pick the candidate that they have heard the most about, or the candidate that they believe they agree with. There will be no extra effort put into researching the candidates, and the forced elections would be useless.
I do not believe that all Americans should be required to vote. If all people were required to vote, some of the voters would run in and just try and get it done as fast as possible. This would undermine the votes of the people who care, and make informed decisions when voting, causing the election to be skewed. Another reason that is shouldn't be required is that it would change voting from a right to a requirement. Overall, I don't think all of America should be forced to vote not only for the integrity of the election and our rights, but also for the good of the country.
I don't believe that all Americans should be required to vote because people who do not care about who is running or really do not have a preference would just carelessly walk in to the voting booth and fill in any circle and turn the ballet in. No one can make someone vote because it would not make that much of a difference. What are they going to do, send them to jail if they do not vote? Personally, some people work and cannot make it to voting or just are lazy and do not feel the need, but whatever the reason may be the president who is the most popular in the peoples eyes and who knows the right things to say to get peoples attention will win. The people who do not vote will not effect it that much.
All Americans should not be required to vote, it should be left up to the individual. I believe this because there are a lot of people out there who do not care about voting. So when the time comes to vote, little though would be put into their decision. Of course they can vote like that if they want, but when it comes down to it, people who don't care don't go. People have their rights, and if they chose for their voice not to be heard, let it be that way.
I don't believe it should be required for all Americans to vote. I believe this because there are a lot of people that do not care enough and not educated enough on the presidency or other seats. They rely on the educated people to vote for the right candidates and I think that is who we should rely on as well to make the right decision. It comes down to people making their own decision and if it is required I feel there would still be people to not vote, just out of laziness.
